Tracking Your Dog With A GPS Dog Collar

GPS technology has come a long way in the past few years. It has also become much less expensive. Now the units are affordable for keeping track of pets that may wander away from home. Man's best friend is no longer helpless and lost when he leaves the yard.

In the past, many people lost their dogs for different reasons. They were lost because they escaped, or because they were stolen, or because they were just wondering around and then were caught by the 'animal' protection people' thinking that they are street dogs and have no masters or owners. Then, there was that brilliant yet simple idea to prevent all of that from happening. With the technology used by GPS (global positioning system), people can now locate their dogs with just a click of a button.

The idea is very easy; all you have to do is to attach a GPS receiver to your dog's collar. When the dog turns up missing, you activate the GPS system installed to your cell phone. The system sends a simple SMS to the dog GPS receiver through the mobile network. The dog's SIM card located on the receiver sends back the pup's location information to your cell phone. This process takes only seconds to complete. And even more, you can set a parameter in the GPS system settings, when the dog crosses that parameter, you get alerted.

There are two types of this kind of GPS systems. The first is bought with an expensive upfront cost but with no monthly fees. The second is with a cheap upfront cost but requires monthly fees. The cheap system only notifies you when the dog is far away.

You will find these devices available in many differing brand names. This allows you to choose the system that works best for you and fits in your budget.

The system was developed by two different companies, one for hardware, the second for software. Petlink is one of the software companies and Telia provides many of the devices.

The first party is the company who make the manufactures the devices hardware, like the SIM card you put on the dogs collars. The second party is the company who makes the software programming. The best example of the second party companies is Petlink. It is a leading company in that service, and it chose to partner with Telia company in providing these devices to the public.

Pets are like family. When they wander off, we want to know where they are. We are concerned about their safety and well-being. We want them to be safe at home. We know the dangers that are lurking outside our home or yard and are fearful when they leave their boundaries. Hum... I wonder if they make these collars for teenagers?
