Nothing beats hanging out with the family. Sure, it's crazy fun to spend time with friends and refreshingly different to relish in solitude. But let's admit it, being with our family has a certain charm and simple happiness to it that can only be experienced with people we know best and who really know us like no other. That's family.
Every home makes a statement about the personality of those who reside there. Your home makes a statement about the nature of your family. The decor of the house is an honest reflection of the family's outlook towards life. There are various home decor techniques and accessories which may be used to express your personality or the personality of your loved one's. Encourage every member of your family to express themselves; one way to do this through decorating.
Choose various themes and styles which are personal for each individual space. Learn what your loved one will prefer before beginning your task. While you may prefer a very old world royal look you may find that your teen may prefer a minimalistic or futuristic look. Even if it is your preference to have one uniform theme your home, it is important to think of the others who live there as well. Multiple individual themes for different rooms or areas of the house will not divide a house as much as discontent. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt and let them design their own specific area. You may find that there are some very creative ideas that add to your decor. Even if this is not the case, you still have the final say, so examine their design ideas and come to a compromise.
One excellent way to do this is by limiting the user's choices to include only accessories. Accessories are a very important part of a room. In fact in many decor themes all it takes to change the entire room is a new area rug. Area rugs come in all shapes and sizes. They can tie a room's theme together faster than any other accessory. A good area rug can even create a new theme. In addition to this, area rugs can protect your floor and add comfort to your room.
Color can be very difficult to agree upon when trying to design a room. Perhaps your child may believe that black or hot pink would look great on the walls, but you just can't bring yourself to agree. Instead of going to this extreme or flat out saying no and starting a riot, consider a lighter tone of the same color for the walls and accessories in the dark color they desire. This kind of contrast can look fantastic and this kind of compromise will keep the peace.
Chilling out at home won't have to be limited to just locking yourselves up in your respective bedrooms. Each room in the house should be an ideal place for the family. It doesn't matter if the kitchen is your turf or the den your husband's. Every nook in the house should be a territory for everyone. By doing these simple steps, your place will be a reflection of multiple personalities...in a good way, of course.
